We would like to wish our Oakwood community a very enjoyable and restful summer break.

We are delighted to inform you about the local libraries Summer Reading Scheme 2022, Gadgeteers. A special launch assembly was held last week for KS1 & KS2 children where they heard all about the scheme and were each given a Gadgeteers bookmark.

The scheme runs from Saturday 9th July to Saturday 3rd September and full details are available in all our local libraries.

KS2 Suggested Reading Lists are available on our website - these are not compulsory reading, they are just suggestions from the teachers.

• Chat Health text messaging support can be accessed on weekdays via the school nursing service. Secondary school aged young people can text any physical or mental health question or concern to 07480 635 050

Girls Annual Football Tournament

The Oakwood girls 'A' football team made history at the annual 6-aside tournament on Saturday, winning the trophy for the first time since it started in 1984. The girls played amazingly as a team.

Great to see the year 5 girls taking part in a B team as well and producing some excellent results too.

We are all so excited and happy for the girls, Mr Cowan and Mrs Westcombe - great teamwork!

Show Tunes in the local care homes

Year 6 children and staff had a wonderful time visiting 2 of our local care homes this week, giving the residents a fantastic performance of their end of year show, Shakespeare Rocks! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the time spent together and gave huge pleasure to absolutely everyone involved.

CAM Workshop

Here in year 5 we enjoyed working with engineers Peter and Helen to make moving toys. We made the jaws of the dinosaurs move by building a CAM mechanism which turns a rotary motion (round and round) into a linear (up and down) motion. This mechanism is used in lots of machines such as car engines. Later, we designed some CAM toys for Peter and Helen to use in their next workshop with another school.
