  • Wellbeing Wednesday - Keep your child safe on line

    Wed 30 Sep 2020

Children are now spending more time on line than ever before and whilst the internet is a great source of learning and staying connected there are risks.  I urge all parents to update themselves.  Try some activities with your child to ensure they know how to stay safe on line and protect their wellbeing.  Thinkuknow is an excellent site, with videos and home activity packs to support you.  The beginning of the new school year is an excellent time to review your child's use of the internet at home.  Please use our Home Online-safety template to support you.

  • Recorders Return to Oakwood

    Tue 29 Sep 2020
Children in Lime class enjoyed their first recorder lesson with Mrs Lawson today.  They were learning the notes B and A as well as learning to read the rhythms of crotchets and quavers.  It's hard to remember to keep your left hand at the top of the recorder.
  • Wellbeing Wednesday-thinking about sleep

    Wed 23 Sep 2020

Last week we introduced our “Wellbeing Wednesday” whereby we invite you to take twenty minutes each Wednesday to learn something new or change the way you do something to enhance your child’s wellbeing. We gave some suggestions in our Twitter feed.

As children have settled back into school, teachers are noticing that many seem tired at the end of the day and towards the end of the week.  Now might be a good time for us all to refresh our understanding of the link between children’s sleep and their physical and mental functioning.  With the longer autumn nights ahead it’s worth investing some time into thinking about your child’s sleep routine.

We know this is difficult for families and NHS sleep tips for children has some suggestions and tips, including a relaxing breathing exercise that is helpful for some children at bedtime.

Children who have slept well have a better chance of learning well!

    Introducing Wellbeing Wednesday…

We want to support our children and families during the return to school with “Wellbeing Wednesday”.  The staff and I invite you to take twenty minutes each Wednesday to learn something new or change the way you do something to promote your child’s wellbeing.

Something small can have a big impact.  In our Twitter feed, I’ve given a small number of suggestions for mental health, being more active and online safety.

This week, may I also recommend signing up to Dr Kathy Weston’s newsletter, Wednesday Wisdom.  Many current parents have said how valuable and sensible they find her approach.

I would be interested in your feedback out on the playground.

We've had a very successful first week back at school.  Many thanks to all our staff, pupils and parents.  I hope the children are enjoying being back with their friends at school.

Thank you to the PTA for organising the wonderful chalk painting.  It was a wonderful and unexpected surprise on our first day back!
