JIGSAW PSHE and RSE
Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
at Oakwood Primary School
At Oakwood, we use a scheme of work called Jigsaw for our core teaching of PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education). This academic year, in addition, we have used external companies such as 'Laugh-ology' who have run workshops for LKS2 and 'Watford FC's six-week Wellbeing Programme' to support our Y6 children.
Jigsaw PSHE is a comprehensive scheme of Work for the whole school from Year R through to Year 6. It brings together PSHE Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning.
SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) development opportunities are mapped throughout. All of these pieces of learning are brought together to form a cohesive picture, helping children to know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people in the world.
Across the school, every class will be focussing on the same theme, exploring areas and developing their skills at an age appropriate level.
These themes are:
- Being Me in My World
- Celebrating Difference
- Dreams and Goals
- Healthy Me
- Changing Me
Within each of these themes children also learn about British Values of Democracy; Rule of Law; Individual Liberty; Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs.
The changing me puzzle piece is also linked to the DFE RSE Guidance
